Inside the palace, Chimnabai taunts Moropant that her unborn baby has to remain hungry because of Laxmibai! Laxmibai arrives then and sees that her maid is about to feed Damodar. She narrates the story of Lord Krishna to Damodar who had only one morsel of rice when he had unexpectedly come to meet Draupadi, so Damodar too has only one grain of rice. Laxmibai gives the food to Chimnabai. Overwhelmed, Chimnabai refuses to have the food at the cost of Damodar remaining hungry. Karma and Laxmibai are relieved when they see that sacks of food grains have arrived. However, they get shocked seeing the mutilated body of a food trader! Laxmibai reads the letter sent by Hugh Rose saying that his men were hungrier, so they decided to keep the ration for themselves!
